About ME
Mike
"I'm just a man", a quote borrowed from one my favorite shows, Kung Fu. I think we so often get caught up in the daily grind and forget that we essentially are humans that have basic needs to move our bodies, have adventures and breathe deeply.
I am in my late fifties and have realized for some time now that I won't be on this earth forever. The time is NOW to take the world by its hand and run! My body is my vessel, so I must take care of it in order to do the things I would like to do.
I am a geologist and an environmental scientist by trade. I am a father of two awesome young men, a husband to my life partner of 34 years and now I am a grandfather! Because I began my family at an earlier age, I have spent a lot of my life at my workplace in order to support all the financial demands life has presented. But now that everyone is somewhat self-sufficient, I feel the urge to experience life through Taiji to enable my body and soul to relax. My family and I have always been travelers, if not around the United States, around the world in more recent years. So the "travel bug" began early in life for me. As for the interest in Taiji, it really did begin in the 70's with Kung Fu. I have always been training in some form of martial arts since then, from Judo, to Bushidokan, to the less aggressive , more mindful, Taiji. My interest in taiji piqued when I began training under Master Chen Huixian who's family began the Chen form of Taiji. I am an avid believer in the benefits of Qi Gong (which translates to essentially working with your energy and breath). I hope to inspire you to take time out of your busy lifestyle and remember to BREATHE!
